Flying option for Bhutanese

tashi-airBhutanese travelers now have an option when flying to Bangkok.  The Bhutan Airlines Airbus 320 took off on its first inaugural flight from Paro to Bangkok on Thursday.

Her Royal Highness Princess, Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck, graced the inaugural flight. Accompanying her Royal Highness were other members of the Royal family, the minister for economic affairs and other dignitaries. Taking off from Paro airport, it was a moment of pride for members of the airlines and a moment of excitement for the guests experiencing their first trip on Bhutan Airlines.

In an hour, the plane lands at the Kolkata airport for refueling. Bhutan Airlines expects to receive clearance for commercial stopovers at Kolkata airport by the end of this month.

What is different about Bhutan Airlines is that the crew is an experienced one from an airlines based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Bhutan Airlines will recruit and have local crew members in about six months time.

There was a special reception at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand for the guests.

Her Royal Highness Princess, Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck, launched the in-flight magazine for the Bhutan airlines “Kuzuzangpola” at a dinner organized by Bhutan Airlines on the same day.

The plane returned to Paro, yesterday. The airbus with 142 seats is now open for commercial flights. A round trip from Paro- Bangkok will cost about Nu.21,000.
