His Majesty grants audience to South Asia’s Chief Election Commissioners

His Majesty the King granted audience to the chief election commissioners of South Asia attending the forum. The forum of election management bodies of south Asia ended in the capital yesterday.

The forum of election management bodies of south Asia this year focused on sharing experiences and resources for better electoral practices in south Asia. Each member countries talked on the electoral practices in their respective regions. Presentations covered topics on engaging youth in elections and politics, alternatives voting methods and increasing voter turnouts in elections among others.

A presentation on the success and challenges in implementing women quota was also held during the forum. The chief election commissioner of Bangladesh, Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed, shared his experience on how providing better education to women helps rather than seeing quota as a solution to encourage women to participate in elections.

Some of resolutions adopted in the forum are the capacity building of election officials in the region, and to explore ways to facilitate women in political participation in south Asia among others. The next forum will be held in Nepal.
