MoIC lists highest in irregularities

PublicAccountsCommitteeChairperson-TharchenThe Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) has the highest number of irregularities, according to the Audit Report of 2012. The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), while presenting the report to the joint sitting of the Parliament today, said the ministry had over Nu. 114 million in irregularities.

The Chairperson, Tharchen, Trongsa representative in the National Council said, of the total more than Nu. 111 million were booked under fraud, corruption and embezzlement. These were in connection to works awarded for the construction of three domestic airports. These cases were forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Similarly, an irregularity amounting to about Nu. 2.6 million and Nu. 0.27 million was also reported under the act of shortfall, lapses and deficiencies, and mismanagement.

The Ministry of Works and Human Settlement was next, with irregularities of over Nu. 104 million, followed by Ministry of Education, close to Nu. 43 million.

According to the report, of the total irregularities of over Nu. 391 million, the highest amount of irregularities was reported under the category of shortfall, lapses and deficiencies, followed by fraud, corruption and embezzlement, violation of laws and rules and mismanagement.

Meanwhile, the report showed that the Royal Audit Authority had recovered a record high of close to Nu. 148 million last year.  Recoveries during 2012 had increased by about 69 percent over the recoveries made in 2011.

During the joint sitting, the Public Accounts Committee also presented review reports of annual audit reports from 2008 to 2011, annual audit report 2012 and the recommendations of the Royal Audit Authority.
