NA passes National Budget 2013-2014

NA-BudgetAfter a prolonged discussion the National Assembly today passed the National Budget for the financial year 2013 -2014. Similarly, a supplementary budget bill was also passed.

During the deliberations, the opposition questioned the government for not having budget allocated for the fulfilment of the pledges made by the government, which was time bound. These include provision for the pay revision, doing away with taxes for small and rural businesses, allowances for the senior citizens and students’ subsidised loans among others.

Responding to it, some of the ruling members said it was too much to ask as they had been in power for only seven weeks and they needed time to work on the fulfilment of their pledges.

Meanwhile, the government was also questioned for not having concrete measures in place to address the increasing debt and rupee shortage, low budget allocation for the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources to solve unemployment issues and having need to contribute 10 percent from the government’s resources on all Government of India funded projects among others.
