Left unused since its construction in 2004

VEgShed-ZhemgangThe weekend vegetable shed in Zhemgang town has remained unused since its construction in 2004. The shed was constructed for the local farmers to have a proper place to sell vegetables, fruits and other home-made products.

Our reporter, Pema Samdrup, says the farmers prefer selling directly to shops and other crowded places, leaving the vegetable shed unused.

According to the Dzongkhag Agriculture Officer, Karma Tenzin, despite continuous supply of vegetable seeds to farmers, the production has remained less. Due to less production most farmers are reluctant to sell their vegetables at the shed. We have already employed official to boost local vegetable production. We are encouraging farmers to produce vegetables in all seasons.”

The shed has six units, with a toilet. Meanwhile, one of the rooms has been occupied by the Trong-Dangkhar Gonor Tshogpa for milk processing.

The weekend vegetable shed was constructed at the cost of Nu. 2.3 million from the HELVATAS.
