Tshogpa elections receives lukewarm response

Four constituencies have no candidates for Tshogpa election. With just two days left for the Thromdey elections, four constituencies in the three Thromdeys of Thimphu, Phuentsholing and Gelephu have failed to field a single candidate for the Tshogpa’s post. Most constituencies have only one candidate each. The response has been lukewarm.

Samdrujongkhar is the only Thromdey that has a candidate each from all the six constituencies.

Thimphu Thomdey has seven constituencies but only six candidates contesting for the post of Thromdey Tshogpa. There are no candidates for Mothithang and Changangkha constituencies.

Gelephu thromdey has six constituencies. There is no candidate from Rabedyling constituency.

In Phuntsholing, there are six constituencies. Pekarzhing constituency does not have a single candidate.  Four people withdrew their candidature stating that the salary is too low.

Samdrup Jongkhar Thromdey is the only Thromdey that managed to field a candidate each from all the six constituencies.

The election commission will conduct an uncontested election in the 16 constituencies of the four Thromdeys that have only one candidate each. This means a yes or no vote will be cast for the candidate.

For the constituencies that do not have even a single candidate, the election commission will conduct an election during the Geog Tshogde elections and Thromde Thuemi elections.
