Ro-Ngoedrup-Chen-BhutaneseAnimationA 2D animation series programme titled ‘Ro-Ngoedrup-Chen’ was launched today. The animation based on local content was launched by the Information and Communications Minister, D.N Dhungyel. Animation series like this are aimed to familiarise children with the local folk tales, legends and mythology, which will help to promote local content.

It is also to promote local entrepreneurship, creativity and generate employment in the creative industry.

According to the ministry, children in Bhutan today have more access to foreign content through cable television channels like Cartoon Networks, Disney Channels among others, and they are more familiar with foreign folktales.

The department of information and media had initiated the production of eight comic books in 2010 and 2011 and also in the process of animating all eight folktales.Ro-Ngoedrup-Chen-BhutaneseAnimation.

‘Ro-Ngoedrup-Chen’ was animated by Druk Vision Studio.  Pema Tshering of Druk Vision Studio said the company has so far animated close to 15 programmes.  “For this particular animation it is a 25 minutes animation and it took five months to complete the project. We had six people working on this particular project.”

He added that animation is not an easy task. “Technically, I think we have to upgrade our skills in first place and secondly to be more efficient in terms of production and thirdly I think we need to have more projects in future and that give us opportunity to learn more,” said Pema Tshering.

The series will be aired on BBS. Two animated series ‘Kado Nado’ and ‘Memay Helay Helay’ had already been aired on BBS.

The ministry has also plans to distribute the copies to the primary and middle secondary schools in the country.
