Traffic congestions at weighbridge

Traffic-congestions-at-weighbridgeIn Phuentshogling, every day, a line of trucks is seen near the weighbridge waiting in turns to weigh the loads the trucks are carrying. This has become one of the reasons for the frequent traffic congestions in the town.

The only weighbridge in Phuentshogling operated by the Regional Revenue and Customs Office is located about half a kilometre away from the town near the highway. So trucks are parked along the roadside which narrows down the road making it difficult for other vehicles to pass through. This congestion, traffic officials said, happens about two to three times a day.

They said, if the weighbridge could be relocated, the traffic congestion would be eased.

According to Pema Wangchen, the Joint Collector of Customs and Excise in Phuentshogling, weighing of loads has been made compulsory in order to curb deflection cases especially on tax exempted items like raw materials and some grocery.

He, however added, that the office is aware of the congestion and have come up with ways on their part to ease the problem.

He added that the Thromde office identified an area near the new truck parking for relocating the weigh and they are now discussing the matters for further course of action.

Until then, the old weighbridge remains, so does the traffic congestion.
