Draft delimitation plan of Chiwogs released

The draft delimitation plan of Geog Tshogde Tshogpa Demkhong or the Chiwog boundary in the 205 Geogs in the 20 districts is now ready. It was released by the Chief Election Commissioner Dasho Kunzang Wangdi today. The delimitation plan is required for the local government elections.

Election Commissioners said the number of Chiwogs in each Geog and the determination of the electoral boundaries were done in accordance with the provisions of the Election Act of Bhutan, 2008 and the delimitation of Demkhong Rules and Regulations of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2010. It considered the registered voter population size, geographical area, existing means of communication, and traditional groupings of villages among others.

The boundaries of the Chiwogs were drawn following geographical landmark and physical features such as river, streams and roads so that it can be easily identified and there is no possibility of misinterpretation or manipulation.

Meanwhile, the Geog maps and necessary documents will be distributed to all the Geogs for public hearing and feedback.

The public hearings shall be undertaken in two stages. A special Geog Yargye Tshogchung meeting in each Geog will be held between January 10 and 20. Special sessions at the Dungkhag and district levels shall be held in every district where feedback from respective Chiwogs will also be presented.

In the 205 Geogs, there are 1,042 Chiwogs.
