DPT questions the legality of PDP’s meeting

DPT--PDP--MonggarThe Druk Phuensum Tshogpa’s (DPT) Dzongkhag Coordinator has submitted a written complaint to the Dzongkhag Election Dispute Settlement Body against the meeting conducted by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), questioning the legality of such meetings. The meeting was held at Wangchuk Hotel in Monggar.

DPT has accused PDP Dzongkhag Coordinator, Jigme Zangpo, and one of the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa’s coordinator Rinzin from Jaibab, for ‘purposely taking advantage of the leniency of the election officials’.

DPT also said the meeting was conducted to seek support from those who had voted for other parties that did not make it through to the general elections.

PDP, on the other hand, said the meeting was organized to introduce Jigme Zangpo and to discuss the coordination works in future. It was to familiarize the party coordinators and supporters of the future coordination, according to them. The Dzongkhag Coordinator added they were not aware that they would have to seek approval prior to such meetings. He said there would be no such lapses in the future.

Some say about 160-180 people attended the meeting.  However, the record submitted to the election office says about 110 people attended the meeting. The Dzongkhag Election Dispute Settlement Body is still working on the case.
