After the scrutiny of political candidates in 47 constituencies by the respective Returning Officers, today, Jigme Tshultim, Druk Phuensum Tshogpa’s (DPT) candidate for Radhi-Sagteng Constituency and People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Jigme Dukpa for Nanong-Shumar Constituency are now disqualified from contesting in the General Elections.

DPT’s Jigme Tshultim, was disqualified after his security clearance was revoked by the Police. He failed to pass the scrutiny process after officials found he had a pending case. BBS tried to find out more about the case, but was refused information.

PDP’s Jigme Dukpa disqualified for not filing his nomination in person to the Returning Officer. Jigme Dukpa is currently not in the country.

ECB says the parties will be notified and given a week from the date of notification to replace their candidates.

Both DPT and PDP said they would wait for the official ECB notification, and proceed accordingly.

Meanwhile, the seven candidates including the former President and Vice-President of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa who moved to the People’s Democratic Party, earlier this week have all qualified for the general elections.
