Rabtenling makes its choice

Dec 24, 2010

The four towns of Thimphu, Phuentsholing, Samdrupjongkhar, and Gelephu are gearing for the Thromdhey elections which are slated for January 21, 2011.

In Gelephu, a village Zomdue or a meeting had to be held today to decide who is going to represent Rabtenling constituency for the mayor’s post. Each constituency can field only one candidate but there were two candidates from Rabtenling constituency- Namgay, a former Dzongda and Dr. Karma Wangchuk, a retired medical doctor.

The villagers made their choice. Namgay who won with an overwhelming majority is to represent them.

There are six constituencies in Gelephu and ideally there should be six contestants. So far only four contestants have registered.

About 1,000 people are eligible to vote in Gelephu Thromdhey elections. They will elect a Thrompoen (Mayor) and six Thromde Tshogpas (representatives), one each from Trashiling, Samdrupling, Rabtenling, Sonamgatsel, Jampeling and Namkhaling constituencies.
