1st LG elections slated for January 21, 2011

The first Local Government (LG) elections under the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan for the four thromde of Thimphu, Gelephu, Samdrupjongkhar and Phuenstholing will be held on January 21 next year. This was revealed by the chief election commissioner at the press conference today.

The chief election commissioner Dasho Kunzang Wangdi said the results will be declared the next day and submitted to His Majesty the King on the same day. He said the candidates will be given 22 days to campaign which shall end on 19th January 2011. The candidates shall not be eligible to spend more than Nu. 50,000 as campaign fund.

According to a notification, the polling day shall be declared as holiday in concerned thromde and all employers will be given leave for those wishing to vote in person.
