Increased number of Typhoid cases in SJ

typhoid-IncreasedCases-SJSamdrup Jongkhar hospital is seeing an increased number of Typhoid cases. Rain and contaminated drinking water sources are being blamed for the increasing cases.

On an average, the hospital detects three to four cases every day.

The hospital’s medical officer, however, said there is nothing to be alarmed about.He said typhoid is quite common around this time of the year as monsoon sets in.

The Assistant Clinical Officer, Sherub, explained that Typhoid is water borne disease. “The symptoms are joint pain with fever and headache. There is also vomiting and the patients suffer from diarrhoea and at times constipation.” He advises people to drink boiled and filtered water. “They should also wash fruits and vegetables properly before consuming.”
