Zhemgang chooses former civil servant

PEma-DakpaPema Dakpa, 43, who as nominated from Bardo Gewog in Zhemgang, secured 2,413 votes including postal ballot. He worked as the Programme Director under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests.

“I pledge to take the responsibility and accountability for strengthening the Parliamentary Democracy by making the Parliament of Bhutan respectable and trustworthy.”

To do so, he said, he would make sure that their voices is heard in the Parliament while executing the two core functions of National

Council; Legislative and House of Review. Pema also said he would innovate and initiate the establishment of economic development hub in Zhemgang.

He has worked in government service for 14 years.

The former NC MP, Pema Lhamo, who was also contesting to get re-elected, could secure only 909 votes, the least among the five contenders. Other contestant, Dorji Kadin, got 1,209 votes. Yeshi Tshomo secured 1,219 votes  and Ugyen Chophel secured 968 votes.
