Tsirang chooses former civil servant

Kamal-BdrKamal Bahadur Gurung, 45, secured 2,381 votes from Tsirang. He has pledged to work on some of the pressing issues that confront Bhutanese Society.

He was nominated from Mendrelgang Gewog in Tsirang. Kamal Bahadur Gurung said he will work on issues such as elimination of poverty, curbing rural-urban migration, and fighting youth unemployment among others.

Kamal BahadurGurung said he is also Pro-Poor Legislation that will address the problem of poverty especially in rural areas.

“I also intend to support legislation that protects farmlands, crops against pests and diseases…,” he said.

He has also promised to make decentralization more meaningful and participatory, help restructure and overhaul education system, make youth development a cornerstone of any policy and ease the plight of landless among others.

The former NC MP Justin Gurung could secure only 477 votes. Another contestant, Passang Thingh Tamang secured 2011 votes and Novin Darlami secured 1,674 votes. Shyam Basnet secured 1,920 votes and Sangay Tamang got 1,305 votes.
