Internet not only affected in Bhutan

Internet services across the country have been down for a couple of days after a major submarine fibre optic cable was cut at Alexandria in Egypt. Though temporary, the internet service provider Druknet has made arrangements to re-route traffic.

The Manager of IP services and Infrastructure of DrukNet, Tashi Phuntsho, said the expected time of restoration is not known yet, although cable ships have reportedly arrived at the site. He said temporary re-routing does not have the capacity that the actual circuit had, which is why the internet has been slow.

Currently Bhutan is connected to the internet via two links, one in Hongkong and the other in the United Kingdom, which is the affected route.
