Speaker appeals to High Court against Gyalpoizhing verdict

SpeakerThe National Assembly Speaker, Jigme Tshultim, has appealed to the High Court, against the verdict on Gyalpoizhing Land Allotment case. The Speaker said the verdict was a total “miscarriage of justice”

The Monggar District Court had passed the verdict on 8th March pronouncing the Speaker guilty of official misconduct, fraud, forgery and deceptive practices during land allotment for Gyalpoizhing town. The district court had sentenced him to two and a half years imprisonment.

The Tshogpon said there is a breach of law by the court and ACC. “No one can breach the Constitution and when you see the verdict, whatever ACC has mentioned they have given general verdict that is guilty of not following 1987 Kasho which is not true.”

He also said the verdict has saddened him. “I have proved that there is no forgery. If that is forgery than there are other nine cases which are of similar nature and why they didn’t take that also.”

Meanwhile, the Home Minister Minjur Dorji’s legal counsel, Jamyang Sherab Wangdi, said, they are still discussing whether to appeal or not. The Home and Cultural Affairs Minister was sentenced to a year imprisonment for official misconduct.
