The first gewog Zomdu of Zhemgang Dzongkhag for the upcoming National Council election was held at Trong Gewog yesterday. The Zomdu was first of eight gewogs’ under Zhamgang. Some 200 people attended the Zomdu.
The Dzongkhag Election officials briefed the people on dos and don’ts of the upcoming elections and voters check-list during the poll day.
However, many people who attended the meeting said they are confused and they do not know the difference between the National Assembly and National Council’s candidates.
“I don’t know the significance of the two houses and we were asked to come for a meeting,” said Karma, a villager. Kezangmo, another villager said they still are unsure about what the meeting was about.
There are no aspiring candidates from Trong Gewog for the National Council election. But from the Dzongkhag, six people including two female have declared their intent to run for the National Council. Trong gewog has 2,112 registered voters and 39 polling stations.
