A 29-year-old convict escaped from the Chamgang Central Jail in Thimphu, yesterday. Kancha Rai, convicted for the offence of chorten vandalism, escaped while returning from a Basic Health Unit in Chamgang. He had been taken to the BHU for a treatment of his hand he had injured while working as a cook in the prison.
A press release from the police says, Kanchan Rai took advantage of the situation and absconded while he was being escorted back to the prison by two prison guards.
The convict is from Dumtoe Gewog under Samtse Dzongkhag.
