The anonymous satirical website, Bhutanomics, has been blocked, for the second time. The website has been inaccessible to many in the country, since yesterday.
The Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority is said to have directed internet service providers to block the site after the issuance of a court order.
The BICMA Director told BBS that the issue is with the court, and refused to comment further.
Kuensel reported that the block is a result of the court order issued by the Phuentsholing dungkhag court after a person filed a defamation charge against the website.
The website allows users to post satirical and social articles.
BBS had earlier picked up the issue of the website being blocked as many had expressed that such a move undermined freedom of expression.
This, however is an unusual case, as the question now being asked is who will be defending in court as the website is run anonymously?
