McKinsey worth their millions: Prime Minister

PM-McKinseyThe Prime Minister has said he is extremely satisfied with the outcome of McKinsey recommendations.

Speaking at the Meet the Press, yesterday, Lyonchhoen said the Nu.430 million consultancy fees paid to McKinsey & Company has led to direct benefits rather than direct saving.

Amid much skepticism, McKinsey was brought in at what has been considered an exorbitant fee to accelerate Bhutan’s socio-economic development. Lyonchhoen says it is a long term investment made by the government, and direct benefits have been reaped although the government is yet to fully recover the consultancy fee of Nu.430 million paid to McKinsey.

Lyonchhoen pointed out that one of the direct beneficial outcomes has been the G2C (government to citizen) services. He also shared that it was McKinsey that assured the government that Bhutan would be able to attract 100,000 tourists by the end of 2012, in spite of the government believing that the country would be able to attract less than half of the number.

He added that McKinsey had brought in new perspective and management techniques to increase efficiency and productivity.
