Dagachhu Hydropower Project nearing completion

Works that began in 2009 on the 126 megawatt Dagachhu Hydro-power Project in Dagana are nearing completion. Ninety nine percent of the power house has been completed, and two 63 megawatt turbines are being installed. Eighty eight percent of tunneling work has been completed as well and the dam site is almost complete.

Most civil work is being done by foreign workers, but for the first time, management is completely by Bhutanese.dagachhu-Hydro-power.

The project was actually supposed to have been completed in April, this year, but it is now expected to be finished beginning next year only due to poor geographical conditions.

The project is estimated to cost more than Nu. 12 billion, and is being constructed with loans from the Asian Development Bank and the Austrian Government.

The electricity generated by the project will be sold to India.
