The Bhutan Development Bank disbursed loans amounting to Nu. 2 million to farmers in Bumthang, in just a day.
Farmers had rushed to avail of loans for potato cultivation, yesterday, as it is the peak season for cultivation this time of the year.
The bank gives two types of seasonal loans: individual and group. Most farmers avail of loan amounts of Nu.10,000 to Nu.30,000. The maximum loan available is Nu.100,000.
The officiating Branch Manager of BDBL, Parasha Bhandari, said they have over 300 clients in Bumthang, alone.
He added that in Bumthang, the seasonal loan is only for potatoes, while in other regions, loans are made available for ginger, cardamom, and orange cultivation.
The potato is an important cash crop for farmers in Bumthang, and also a reliable source of good income.
