DNT elects Dorji Choden as the party president

DNT-President--Dorji-ChodenDruk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) elected Dorji Choden, 53, as its party president. Dorji Choden from Thrimshing-Kangpara Constituency, under Trashigang, was elected as the President in an uncontested election, during the party’s first general convention in Thimphu, today.

She becomes one of the two women in the country leading a political party.

“DNT believes in shared leadership and team work. And I believe that DNT has very capable candidates to work with and from where I can draw strength and work together,” she said.

Dorji Choden is also Bhutan’s first woman engineer and has served in the civil service for more than two decades. Dorji Choden resigned to contest in the country’s first parliamentary election in 2008. She was then with the People’s Democratic Party.

The Assembly also declared Jigme Zangpo and Achyut Bhandari as the party’s vice presidents. The other post bearers declared include that of the Secretary General, Treasurer and Internal Auditor.

Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa has confirmed 40 candidates so far.
