900 oxygen cylinders seized for non-declaration

Feb 26, 2013

OxygenCylinderCustoms officials in Phuentsholing confiscated 900 oxygen cylinders in a non-declaration and diversion case on Monday morning.

The truck carrying the gas cylinders produced in Bhutan was intercepted at the main border gate.

Officials said after being imported, Indian importers re-export the same gas to Bhutan at higher rates. This is said to be possible because the gas cylinders exported from Bhutan do not have any company logos on them.

While the export value is Nu.98 per cylinder, the import value is about Nu.200 per cylinder.

The oxygen gas is mainly used for welding by mega-construction projects and automobile workshops.
