Bhutan-India Plan Talks

The Plan Talks between the governments of Bhutan and India will be held in New Delhi on 27-28 February 2013. During the Talks, the two sides will review the progress of the 10th Five Year Plan (FYP).

The Government of India’s (GoI) commitment to the 10th FYP is Rs. 34 billion which is about 70 percent of the total external assistance Bhutan received. This excludes non-planned activities such as in the hydropower sector.

A press release from the Foreign Ministry states the projects implemented under the GoI’s assistance in the 1oth FYP are progressing well, and most of them are expected to be completed on time.

It also says the other important issue that will be discussed will be the Bhutanese government’s request to the Indian government for support towards the draft 11th FYP.

The Bhutanese delegation will be led by Yeshey Dorji, the Foreign Secretary, and will include Dasho Dr. Sonam Tenzin, the Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Human Settlement, Dasho Sonam Tshering, the Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Lam Dorji, the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Karma Tshiteem, the Secretary of the Gross National Happiness Commission, and other senior officials.

The Government of lndia has generously supported Bhutan’s development since the first Five Year Plan in 1961.
