(Update:) Forestry officials, the police, Desuups and the local community, making up a team of a 160 people are continuing to battle the forest fire in Shengana in Punakha.
The team is hopeful that they will be able to contain the fire aided by rain which began falling in the evening.
The fire had first started on Friday night at about 10:30 from Manikha and had been contained yesterday morning, but it had been rekindled by the afternoon, yesterday. BBS was told that the fire could have been reignited from embers that had not been doused properly.
Several acres of chirpine forests are reported to have been damaged.
The cause of the fire is still not known.
