Man in Paro sentenced for involuntary manslaughter

A 55-year-old man from Pema Gatshel was sentenced to a prison term of 4 years and 6 months by the Paro Dzongkhag Court for involuntary manslaughter, yesterday.

The accused was arrested after a 19-year-old boy died of stab wounds. The incident had taken place, last year, on the night of November 28.

The accused was returning home when he saw the deceased carrying a construction tool which belonged to him. He had asked the boy to return his tool and when the boy refused, a fight had ensued. The deceased had pushed the accused to the ground and had made to leave with the tool, when the accused stabbed him in the stomach with his patang.

The accused has, meanwhile, been ordered to pay Nu. 3,94,300 to the victim’s family.

In another case, a 43-year-old man from Paro was sentenced to 2 years for stabbing his brother-in- law.

The victim had been stabbed in his right abdominal area. The accused had been on drugs during the episode, and the two had no record of previous hostilities.

The accused is required to pay Nu. 1,80,000  as compensation to the victim.
