Thimphu forest fire contained

(Update:) The forest fire above Memelakha in Thimphu has finally been put out.

A light shower overnight and rain during the day was a blessing for fire-fighters who were, otherwise, struggling to contain the fire as fierce winds fanned and rapidly spread the fire.

The fire broke out at about 5:20 Thursday evening.

Close to three hundred fire-fighters comprising of forestry officials, the army, Dessups, volunteers, RNR officials and local residents battled the fire.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage caused is still not known.
