A fire, which broke out early, this morning near the Ta Dzong in Paro, has completely burnt down a shop. The fire also damaged a Dzongkhag store room and affected two other houses.
The shopkeeper, her two daughters and a small child were able to escape without injury. Two gas cylinders inside the shop had exploded after they escaped.
The fire was reported to the police at 1.27 am. The police aided by local people were able to contain the fire within an hour.
Nothing from the shop could be saved, but fire fighters were able to save most things in the storeroom.
The police believe the fire could have started from an electric short circuit.
The victims have been given Nu. 10,000 from His Majesty’s Kidu fund, and have been provided with basic amenities through the UNICEF fund.
