The Prime Minister’s High-Level Visit to India

PM--President-of-India-Pranab-Mukherjee-Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley called on the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday. He also met the Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Lyonchhoen said his visit to India was to convey the gratitude of the Bhutanese people to the Indian government and people for the substantial support extended towards Bhutan’s development and her democratic transition.

President Pranab Mukherjee shared with Lyonchhoen that India values its relationship with Bhutan, and also commended Lyonchhoen on playing a pioneering role as the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Bhutan.

During Lyonchhoen’s meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, mutual satisfaction over growing ties and friendship between the two countries was expressed by both leaders.PM-PM-ManmohanSingh

Dr. Manmohan Singh assured that the government of India would fulfil all its commitments to Bhutan, including those in the hydropower sector.

The two Prime Ministers, over a luncheon hosted by Dr. Manmohan Singh, agreed to establish a structured forum for policy dialogue between the two countries.

Lyonchhoen called on the Vice President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, as well. Following that, the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, and the General Secretary of Congress called on Lyonchhen.
