ECB gives go-ahead for introductory tour

DNT-familiarisationTourThirty candidates from Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa are already in their constituencies on an introductory tour. They got an approval for an introductory visit to the constituencies from the Election Commission of Bhutan on February 2. The approval came after the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa made a formal request to the Commission to introduce their party to the grassroots.

The interim President of the Party, Jigme Zangpo, said this visit, especially, for the new parties would be helpful. “People are often confused with the new parties’ names and we thought we should inform our people about the parties, ideologies, and logo and introduce them to constituents. That’s why we applied to have this visit to ECB.”

When asked if there is a clear line between the introductory visits and campaigning, Nima Tshering, one of candidates of the Party, said it is no different from the ‘Prime Minister led tour to the Dzongkhags’.

During the introduction visit, the ECB has given the parties to hold public gathering with prior permission from law enforcement and local government authorities. The Election Commission says the visit will be important in ensuring free and fair elections- and will give an equal footing to all parties.
