Drak-Tsho special athletes bring home 16 medals

Drak-Tsho-MedalsDrak-Tsho special athletes bagged 16 medals in the state-level championship held in Sikkim, India last month. Four students from Drak-Tsho Vocational Training Centre for special children and youth took part in the three-day championship.

The students took part in 200-metre race, 50-metre race, Shot-put, Badminton, Bocce and Five-A-Side Football. Of the total of 16 medals, eight were gold, five slivers and three bronze medals.

It was organised to promote sports for children and youth with disabilities through equal opportunities. It is also provide a platform to showcase their abilities.

The Deputy Director of the Drak-Tsho Vocational Training Centre, Deki Zam, said the kind of performance showed by the students indicated that if given an opportunity they could perform.

Including Bhutanese participants, a total of over 90 athletes with special needs took part in the championship. The championship was organised by the special Olympic Bharat, Sikkim Chapter.
