His Majesty the King granted an audience to the dzongdas and gups who are in the capital to attend the annual dzongda and gup conferences.
His Majesty emphasised the importance of people’s participation in the upcoming elections. “You will have to go to back your villages as my representatives, and encourage the people to participate fully in the democratic process and make the 2013 elections successful,” His Majesty said.
His Majesty said the gups will have to ensure that the elections do not create divisions among the people, and that communities continue to live together in harmony.
“We are lucky to be born in Bhutan, where the lives of the people have improved vastly in just a few decades and where there is peace, security and prosperity. However, we should never take this for granted.”
His Majesty asked the gups to convey to the people His Majesty’s happiness and appreciation for the manner in which they have been serving the country.
