PM tells Dzongdas to be fair to all political parties

PM_DzongdaConfThe Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley told the dzongdas to maintain neutrality, and be fair to all political parties by providing a level playing field.

He was speaking at the Annual Dzongda Conference which was held at the Convention Centre in the capital yesterday.

Lyonchhoen said the dzongdas must consult among themselves and with the local leaders on ways to ensure peace and stability so that communities are not disrupted by political forces and divisive motives.

Delivering a keynote address at the 20th Annual Dzongda Conference, Lyonchhoen said, there are more political parties in the fray as opposed to two in 2008. “You must also submit your views to the election commission and to the home ministry on areas of wasteful expenditures or wrong deputation for election duty based on your previous experience.”

The Prime Minister also called on the Dzongdas to review and reflect on their responsibility as the Dzongkhag Chief Election Coordinator in the next few months.

He along with the Cabinet Ministers thanked the Dzongdags from all the 20 districts for their endeavours to complete Bhutan’s biggest and ambitious 10th Five Year Plan. Lyonchhoen urged the dzongdas to remember, while reviewing and proposing activities, that they must strive to improve rural life and ensure equitable growth of the gewogs.

The one day conference was organised by the Department of Local Governance under the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs. The Cabinet Ministers and other high-level government officials attended the conference.
