Two men, 45 and 25 years old, have been booked by the Trashiyangtse police for chorten vandalism. They were arrested on January 30 for vandalising seven chortens, five in Khamdang and two in Lengkhar village under Khamdang in Trashiyangtse.
They have confessed to the crime. Both the suspects are from Trashiyangtse.
The police have retrieved ancient coins and coral necklaces from the suspects. If proven guilty, they will be charged under the offence against the Ku, Sung, Thug-Ten or Zung. The Penal Code of Bhutan states that grading for offence against the Ku, Sung, Thug-Ten or Zung shall be a felony of the first degree.
