People penalised for non-compliance of waste regulation

Fine-non-compliance-of-waste-regulationTsirang Dzongkha’s municipal has started implementing the Waste Prevention and Management Regulation 2012, from yesterday. And yesterday alone, the dzongkhag municipal collected Nu 16,500 as penalty from the businessmen in Damphu town for non-compliance of the regulation.

The highest penalty, Nu.2,000 was paid by a businessman. He was penalised for leaving construction materials outside his shop and along the pedestrian sidewalk. Many people speaking to BBS said they are unhappy with the unchecked penalty being imposed.

The dzongkhag municipal says the fine was imposed as per the regulation. The Executive Engineer, Tashi Chophel, said the municipal is all geared up to strictly monitor the waste in and around the town area. He said by now people should agree and accept the move, as they have already conducted numerous awareness programs.

The dzongkhag municipal is also advising the commuters and visitors at the town to be responsible in managing their waste. If found littering, they will be fined on the spot.
