His Majesty graces the opening session of the Parliament

His Majesty the King graced the opening ceremony of the 6th session of the Parliament today.

Her Royal Highness the Princesses, senior government officials and members of the international organizations also graced the opening ceremony. In his address, His Majesty the King thanked the donor countries for helping Bhutan to achieve the development plans.

As the country is presently undertaking the mid-term review of the 10th Five Year Plan, His Majesty said that India’s assistance has been wholehearted and generous to the first development plan under our new democracy.

On this note, His Majesty on behalf of the people of Bhutan conveyed his deep appreciation to the government and the people of India.

His Majesty added that on his return from India recently, he was depressing to learn about the fire incident in Bumthang Chamkhar. His Majesty thanked His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo, who visited Chamkhar in his absence and helped the victims immediately. His Majesty also thanked all those who came together in times of need.

The victims have been assured full support from the government. The message was clear; Bhutanese should help each other in times of need and maintain this culture for generations to come. And officials and parliamentarians should set an example because they are the trusted ones- said His Majesty the King.

Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba- on behalf of the government thanked His Majesty the King for his unwavering support during the times of natural disasters.

The Opposition Leader, Tshering Tobgay applauded the services rendered by the armed forces and thanked His Majesty the King for being the supreme commander in Chief of the armed forces.

The Chairperson of the National Council, Namgay Penjore also thanked His Majesty for his continued support.

Bumthang’s Dzongkhag’s National Council member also took the opportunity to thank His Majesty on behalf of the Bumthaps for His Majesty’s support and bringing back the lost smiles.
