PM leaves for Sri Lanka

The Prime Minister and his entourage were seen off at the Paro international airport by the Home and Cultural Affairs Minister, Lyonpo Minjur Dorji, the Finance Minister Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu, the Chief of Protocol and Paro Dzongkhag officials.

In Sri Lanka, the Lyonchhoen Jigmi Y. Thinley will grace as the Guest-of-Honour for the swearing- in-ceremony of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second term as the President of Sri Lanka on Friday.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa assumes office in his second term as the President of Sri Lanka, after he won the Presidential Election held in January this year by a massive majority of over 1.8 million votes against the former Army Commander and common opposition nominee, General Sarath Fonseka. President Rajapaska did not assume office for the new term since he completes his six-year term as President only this month.

Lyonchhoen Jigmi Y. Thinley, while in Sri Lanka will also call on the President and discuss bilateral matters.

The Prime Minister is also expected to meet the Bhutanese students studying in Sri Lanka.

Lyonchhoen Jigmi Y. Thinley is accompanied by the Education Minister Lyonpo Thakur Singh Powdyel, the ambassador of Bhutan to Sri Lanka Dasho Bap Kesang, representatives from the Zhung Dratshang. Other senior foreign ministry officials will join the delegation tomorrow.
