Dongkala to get drinking water

The Dongkala Lhakhang in Paro is facing acute drinking water shortage. And with the onset of winter, the problem is only going to grow with the water sources drying up.

Every day, the monks of Dongkala Lhakhang take turns fetching the water from a mountain spring located half an hour’s walking distance from the Lhakhang.

“We fetch water from the nearest source. The source is small and we cannot always rely on it,” said Lam Kinga Rinchen.

The problem is likely to be solved about four months from now with works to bring drinking water to the Lhakhang nearing completion.

The Lhakhang will also shortly get permanent electricity supply. For now, it has been provided temporary electricity connection.

“We do not use electrical appliances due to a problem in the connection caused by the recent earthquake. We only use it for lighting purposes. We are using firewood to cook.”

The Lhakhang has over 20 monks.
