Party-goers give residents sleepless nights

People living near discotheques, Drayangs and bars are sleep deprived. Loud honks, blaring music from the cars and shouting and screaming in the street by the party goers are causing the residents distress and endless sleepless nights. They say- the afterhours – once the discos are over having become intolerable nuisance.

According to one of the residents, during and after party hours, there are a minimum of 50 people outside in the street.  “They are drunk, shouting, and at times fighting,” he said.

The residents lodged verbal complaints with the police station several times. Since no action was taken, they filed in a written complaint to Thimphu Thrompon and attached a copy to home ministry, police chief, Bhutan Media InfoComm Authority and the trade’s regional director.

Much to the resident’s dismay, no action has been taken even though it has been three months after they filed in the letter.

At present, there are 12 Drayangs, 10 discotheques and 19 light music and karaoke in Thimphu alone.
