“Thimphu Affirmative”, an agenda to save tiger endorsed

At the second Asian Ministerial Conference, which ended today, 13 tiger range countries endorsed a nine point action agenda called “Thimphu Affirmative”; supporting their commitments to double the number of tigers by 2022.

The Tiger Range Countries’ Ministers and heads of delegates have agreed on “Thimphu Affirmative” to remain committed and double the number of wild tigers at the closing of two days conference.

Some of the action points include strengthening frontlines through enhanced recognition and resources for rangers and park officials, saving tiger habitat and benefit sharing with communities.

It also include mainstreaming collaboration among tiger range countries such as eliminating illicit demand for tiger, developing new partnership with industry and businesses in conservation and monitoring the progress in these countries.

The endorsement from these countries also renews their commitment to collective action and political leadership, together with the support of international partners to reach the goal of doubling the number of wild tigers globally by next tiger year which is in 2022.
