Trashiyangtse approves two stone quarries

A special Dzongkhag Tshogdu was held in Trashiyangtse yesterday to discuss and review the proposal to set up three stone quarries in the Dzongkhag. The Tshogdu approved two stone quarries and rejected one.

The Dzongkhag Environment Committee recommended the approval of a stone quarry under Jamkhar Gewog. The assessment was done in March this year. While majority of the members supported the proposed quarry site, a few of them opposed, fearing its implication on the environment.

The Tshogdue, however, rejected a stone quarry to be set up under Yangtse Gewog. The approval was not recommended by the Dzongkhag Environment Committee since the owner had two different locations for the quarry. The owner had tried to deceive the committee by showing a different location for the stone quarry.

Another proposed stone quarry under Yangtse gewog got through as the Tshogdu members felt it will have minimum impact on the environment.
