NC accepts recommendation to retain communication allowance

The National Council has accepted the Good Governance Committee’s recommendation to retain the communication allowance under the Pay Structure Reform Bill. Except for the Gasa MP who was dismissed from the session, no members objected to the committee’s recommendation. The committee says the officials entitled to the allowance deserve it and therefore should be given in accordance with the draft Bill. Earlier the National Assembly decided to do away with the communication allowance along with internet data charges.

“The Bill actually aims to deduct allowances that are not relevant. But if we cite an example, the communication allowance for a Tshogpa is only Nu 200. However, we know how much a Tshogpa has to communicate with his people. So, a Tshogpa deserves a communication allowance. Similarly, others should also be getting. However, we support the assembly’s decision to withdraw internet data charges,” said Nima, the Chairperson of the Good Governance Committee of the National Council.
