One-stop shop opens in Chuzargang

Further the place is from a town, the more expensive the goods become. Similar is the case in Chuzargang Gewog under Sarpang Dzongkhag. Chuzargang is one of the four gewogs located across Mao River.

People still have a choice to buy basic necessities from Gelephu town during winter,  but come monsoon the Mao Khola swells up making it difficult for the people crossover to Gelephu town. Thus  to enable people of the gewog to get the basic necessitates at a cheaper rate, the Chuzargang Agricultural farmers’ Cooperative (CAFCO) has opened a one stop shop in the gewog.

The gewog has quite a number of shops selling groceries but it charges a little higher than the Maximum Retail Price. Shopkeepers cannot be blamed for  they have to bring the goods all the way from Gelephu, which is a little more than an hour’s drive on a bumpy farm road. The one stop shop was opened in November 2010. The shop sells necessary goods like rice, cooking oil, salt, milk powder, and soaps among others.

The Manager of CAFCO, Kinzang Dorji, said the goods are all bought from the Food Corporation of Bhutan outlet in Gelephu. He said no goods are priced more than the MRP

The one stop shop also has another shop in the adjacent room, where local products like egg, potatoes and dairy products are also sold here.
