Truckers out of business

About 70 to 80 truckloads of gypsum are transported to Samdrup Jongkhar from Khothakpa in Pemagatshel every day. Despite the number, many trucks have been lying idle for over a month now.

The truckers say they are waiting for the loads which are in short supply. They say the company which is supposed to allocate the loads is showing preference to tripper trucks. “We are worried about our sustainability,” said the truckers.

The mining manager at Khothagpa, Zangla Drukpa, said the shortage in the supply arose because the raw material in their previous site is almost over. “The new site isn’t ready.” He said the new sites will be ready in about two months and the supplies will pick up then.
