His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo meets with the victims of Bumthang fire

His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo today met with the victims of Bumthang fire. Fifty nine houses including hotels and shops of Chamkhar town were razed to the ground in one of the worst major fire disasters in the country in the early hours of yesterday morning.

His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo is accompanied by Their Majesties the Queen Mothers Ashi Tshering Pem Wangchuck and Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck. Speaking to the affected families, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo said that His Majesty the King will provide free timbers, relief funds and CGI sheets.

His Majesty told the people that if new houses are constructed in the Chamkhar town, it will be problematic and inconvenient for the people if they have to shift to the new Dekiling town next year. His Majesty asked the people to discuss the matter with the Minister of Works and Human Settlement, who is also in Bumthang.

To this, the Chhoekhor Gup on behalf of the people submitted that it may take about three years for the people to construct houses in the new town.

His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo and Their Majesties the Queen Mothers granted semso to the affected families. Some of the affected families that BBS spoke to said His Majesty’s words of condolence gave them the strength to bear their grief.

His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and Their Majesties the Queen Mothers visited the Chamkhar town and interacted with the public. Two hundred sixty seven people were affected by the fire. The victims are living in a temporary shelter at the vegetable market at the moment.
