ECB to conduct Khamdang-Ramjar constituency bye-election as scheduled

From about 3,200 people who registered for in-country postal ballots for Khamdang-Ramjar Constituency, more than 2,700 people have voted so far. Since Trashi Yangtse is a green district, the Bye-election in Khamdang-Ramjar Constituency will be conducted on Thursday this week as announced earlier.

There are more than 10,000 total registered voters from the constituency. And some 100 Bhutanese abroad voted using the postal ballot facility.

“The last time the lockdown was announced in some districts, we did discuss a second plan. But the dzongkhag isn’t under lockdown. So, we didn’t have to use plan B. But even if there is an outbreak in the district, we won’t be able to use plan B now because we need more time for that. If in case, the dzongkhag goes under lockdown then the poll date might have to be postponed,” said Tenzin Namgyel, the Returning officer in the district.

The MP’s seat for the Khamdang-Ramjar constituency became vacant after the former MP Kuenga Loday resigned in November last year. He was convicted of the illegal construction of a road along with five others by the High Court. The case is currently at the Supreme Court after he appealed.
