Man from Nepal sentenced to 15 years in prison for smuggling hashish and crystal meth

Thimphu district court sentenced a 30-year-old man from Nepal to 15 years in prison for smuggling hashish and crystal meth.

The case came into the light in 2019 after the man paid Nu 100,000 to DHL, a courier service in Phuentshogling for a package bound for Hongkong. The DHL found it suspicious. They then sent the package to Thimphu after the man said the package is worth about Nu 20,000 and alerted the authorities.

Authorities found about 19 kilograms of hashish and 600 grams of crystal meth. Crystal meth is a strong and highly addictive drug that affects the central nervous system. It’s a popular party drug.
